Our 102-acre property is fortunate to have 25 acres of rolling pastures. During the growing season, this vital habitat provides rotational grazing land for our herd of dairy cows and our flock of sheep. It also provides many of the hay bales that we store in our barns for winter feeding. Thankfully, our generous neighbors allow us to hay their pastures, so our animals benefit from over 3,000 bales of nutritious local hay!
Our free stall barn and cement slab are cleaned daily, and the manure, shavings, and hay are brought to the large three-bay composting shed behind the farmhouse. Once these materials have been composted, our farmers load them into the manure spreader and cast them over the pastures as fertilizer, so that nutritious hay will grow, starting this important farm-cycle over again.
