Honey Bees – Adopt a Hive

Interested in learning about beekeeping and the lives of honey bees?
It’s possible with our Adopt a Hive Program for New Pond Farm Members.

In this unique hands-on program you will suit up and work right alongside our passionate beekeeper and educator, Ann Murray. Ann is brimming with knowledge about these essential and truly extraordinary pollinators, and soon you will be too!
Between April and October you and Ann will coordinate several monthly visits so you will have an opportunity to see first hand, how your hive progresses through the growing season. You will observe the behaviors and roles of workers, drones and possibly the queen, and you will be amazed at the engineering feats and endless productivity taking place in this super-organism known as the honey bee colony.
This will be a hands-on learning experience that you will never forget! All beekeeping suits and equipment will be loaned to you during each visit.

Registrations for Adopt a Hive will reopen in Spring 2024.

Please Stay Tuned for Details.

Visit-a-Hive

We now have a new program available where you, and up to three family members, can enjoy a visit to a beehive (borrowing a bee suit from us for the day) and help our beekeeper and educator, Ann Murray, with an inspection of one of our active colonies. This one visit opportunity is a great chance to actually look inside a working hive, without committing to the full season Adopt-a-Hive program.

Of course, we still have our full season Adopt-a-Hive program which is our best training program for those interested in becoming beekeepers themselves one day.

Please check back in the Spring, for more details

Additional Ways to Support the Bees

We are always thrilled to have support for our honey bees. Donations of any amount will help support this beneficial insect and will be greatly appreciated. A donation of $120 will sponsor a colony, covering the cost of purchasing and maintaining a colony of bees on the farm.

If you would like to give a donation, no matter how small, in support of our bees, you can either give online and include “for Honey Bees” in the comments section or send a check with “Honey Bees” in the memo to:
